English Poetry

Even in my wildest of dreams

I never dreamt a dream in dream

as much I lived a life as life.

A churned up dream with life is life;

thicker than dream; thinner than life.

It’s life like dream half blur, half clear

and dreams solid and palpable.

Not life, rock-like reality

nor dream like fog, obscurity.

Oft dreams ornate like the Sun

donning the bright chaplet of light

and too often dreadful like the gloom

of agitating inner sin.

It’s life like dream half blur, half clear

and dreams solid and palpable.

Lo life, a swim in reverie main.

In trance flapping the limbs we wade

through swirling waves of vague pictures

of fleeting world, presumed as true.

It’s life like dream half blur, half clear

and dreams solid and palpable.

It’s all mind-made, emotions jelled.

In solitude we feel around

a millions’ scary raw din

and while amongst a myriad souls;

alone, distressed, depressed and sad.

It’s life like dream half blur, half clear

and dreams solid and palpable.

Like sharks wile thoughts nibble

Like whales with yawning mouths, fears gulp

Some joys flicker, few hues shimmer

It’s life like dream half blur, half clear

and dreams solid and palpable.

Paradox of life – Sometimes dreams look real and reality appears dream-like.Both are inter-woven and make life worth living.

      Dear Kusum,
Thanks for the comment. The poem is based on Hindu philosophy which says that the body and all the material world we see and perceive otherwise is mutable, temporary and ‘Midhya’ or illusion and that the soul or ‘Atman’ is the one that really exists forever. Since we cannot see the Atman, this theory sounds ridiculous. To support this view the sages ask “Aren’t you seeing weird things in dreams, imagination and is not the figure of the person or place when you recall appearing before your eyes?” We see things, places and persons in dreams, we scent odours, feel pain and joy, some people laugh and cry and shout in dream state. That means dreams are not just illusions, but have the quality of being palpable and tangible which proves that there are other unknown senses within us, besides the elemental eyes, nose, tongue, skin etc. which are perceiving metaphysical experiences. So ultimately the elemental body one day perishes, or dies which has enjoyed all the worldly beauties and which suffered by worldly evils; but the soul or Atman travels beyond the body, even after the death of the body. This is the idea behind this poem.

      With best regards,

Psychologists like Sigmund Freud & Karl Jung have given explanations to many of our dreams. Reiki and Pranic Healing Masters also try to unravel them
Some people’s dreams even portend future events.
Yet some of the dreams remain a mystery sometimes.
Some fly away on waking up. Some remain with you for long, wonder why!

Many images cluttered up like in a dream -’ half blur, half clear’.
Some fearful like whales and sharks.
