When I die….
English Poetry, Uncategorized |
When I die….
Who will miss me?
How many will be at my funeral?
Turn up at the church?
Walk to the graveyard?
Again the wrong questions!
Who will I have left behind?
To find a believing priest,
To place me in holy ground?
To pray the many prayers,
To mitigate my many sins?
Who have I been?
And who will I have left behind?

Hi
you said it yourself ” the wrong questions “.
Why fret when today be sweet? Someone said ‘ Journeys end in lovers meeting ‘ . So the end is the beginning and all who care will certainly be there.
sarala.
Who have I been? in my view would be the question after Who am I?
When I die, I would like it, if the people I know
would celebrate my going rather than crying over it

may be a funeral party….
A lovely muse,Gion.
Should we really worry
about ….?
Very nice poem
Liked very much the poem and the pondering it provokes.
Remembered few lines of lyrics of a very beautiful popular & revered Marathi poem of great poet B R Tambe, on the subject, the opening lines of which translated may read something as follows
“When I die my people are going to say “Haai” Haai” for a little while
But no world’s work or activities are going to be affected after I die….
Everything will go on running in the same way it is going on as now …”
Gion,
Right or wrong, one has to answer one’s own questions.
I hope you will find yours in your next poem.
Best wishes,
Kusum
