She-2

1.
The chameli adorning her hair
Now wilted and yellow
It had already seen a few strangers .
A few strands of hair in disarray
The night was still long
The sari,the only saving grace
Yellow, having sucked all color from the blooming amaltas
Tucked perilously below the waist
The left hand resting carelessly on the curve
The pan chewing teeth spat in a monotonous regularity
The habit probably cultivated to keep them away from the zone
Strange
She was probably numb down there
It had to be always a green signal
Sort of an express highway…
Like an amputated limb
It didnt belong to her anymore….
But it was always red pan stained on the lips
No entry
This was her
Throbbing,pulsating,alive,
Sacred.

2.

The night clings to her

Sound of shops closing their shutters

Her day begins now

Her eyes dart from here and there

A flick of her chameli adorned choti

Where are the bloody men today?

Her mind darts between the hungry infant in her room

and the last man who snatched the money he gave her

She chews her paan faster

Spits it out with vengeance

A motor cycle approaches and stops

A deal is struck

They leave together for her room

Barely takes 10 minutes

As he is about to leave

The child starts bawling

Perfect timing

The man hurries out

Starts to run

The motorcycle roars away

All I can say Renu is ” wow” what an image you have conjoured. Hard hitting and truthful.

A very effective & a commendable poem
of a very sordid factual tale,
of human dignity degradation

Comment on this comment

Sad but unearths the brutal ignored realities of the flesh business…
