The sage on a long journey aspired
From one corner of the world to another.
The four directions he covered
And sat down to think of what transpired.
The oceans in one direction flowed,
Where people to the sea gods bowed—
To the strength and wrath of the storms,
To the waves, which erased as fury blowed.
In another, the green pastures beckoned,
The rains, free, fast and furious
Dropped down incessant and continuous,
Making any movement hesitant and dubious.
The desert, in another, marked a stiff contrast,
The sand, the rocks, seemed so stark,
As no greens, only cactus on long stalks,
Adorned the otherwise unfriendly path.
The moderate in the fourth direction,
Showed beauty and calm in moderation,
If one day had a cold intention,
The next would be a warm intervention.
The largesse of the sea – human heart doth bade,
The equatorial forest – fertility great,
And deserts – though barren, no doubt,
But strength and beauty indicate,
And moderates – an important lesson gave—
Various designs, encompassed in one embrace,
Soft and hard, all encompassed in one space.

Very good Parminder,
the climate/environment imagery well penned. A good moral conveyed.

May I suggest that temperate, temperance, temperates might have worked with the climate analogy?

well thought out poem
A super-classical verse maintaining very good rythm and rhyme, as is ofeten
observed in your poems. I can’t help inviting 4 shining moons to adorn you
and your poem, too, over your this 5-star poem.
By the way, I also can’t help inviting your observations on my latest write
“Ladka-Ladki”, which is particularly written for women for their enlightenment
and renaissance, as I feel. a.k. goswami.

Born and brought up in Kanpur, married in Jaipur and now in Chandigarh, I have been fortunate to taste various cultures of our country. Had a brief stint in teaching while in Jaipur but more duties called. Now, help my husband in his business as much as I can. I love Music, reading, writing, painting, when time allows as I am part of a family of nearly 70 lovely people. I will always be indebted to p4poetry for providing an outlet for what I had always kept under lock and key.
