Writer’s Block
The pen, held in my hands
Between my fingers cradled
Denting on tips and sometimes ladled,
Running between canines
Then making some notes,
Forming some lines,
Starts really fast, and then slows,
My eyes first look, then close,
Searching in the mind’s eye
Looking for inspiration,
Finding none.
Hunting for ideas,
Lacking all motivation.
Grinding my teeth in helpless frustration,
Stamping my feet in grueling agitation,
Rustling the grey cells, causing commotion,
Creating a few waves, not worthy of mention.
Flickering ideas, like hopping squirrels,
Cascading in bits, like tiny flowers—
Appear, then slither away like a mean crawler,
Words come and drop, like petals in a bower.
All this, a fact, with no hyperbole,
In my heart, it takes its toll,
Seeking, finding all doors locked,
Facing, what they say, a writer’s block!!

@Vishvnand, Thanks Vishva ji. I have yet to read what you wrote and others as well. Am having such a busy time here. But your words of encouragement are always sought after as soon as I put something here. Thanks.

parminder ji,
Yes I can appreciate your feelings, which I am sure all have, including my own self, for having posted the poem, we are so eager to know the reaction and how our friends at p4poetry have felt the poem that we posted. Your poems have given lot of hapiness to readers at this site, and continue to do so, I assure you.
Very good Parminder Ji for your apreciably painstaking endeavour to
explicate a writer’s block through choosy wordings, except that the poem
a bit appears to be introspectuive rather than ergonomic, which a poem
should usually be on such topics of physical and/or mental hurdles.
Excuse me please. a.k. goswami.

@ashwini kumar goswami, Thanks Ashwini ji for the kind words. As I wrote earlier, when the words form in me I very seldom change them, since I feel they are my real expression and not just made out, if you know what I mean. Sorry, but that is the way I am, silly about certain things.

@parminder, Thanks Parminder Ji, for
your plain and crystal clear thoughts. The poem that which comes of any-
one’s heart and soul can never lose its witty weight, which your poem will
always upkeep. My suggestion with regard to maintaining ergonomics in
such topics was an earnest request to poets in general, particular poems
apart, as writing is their reserved right.a.k. goswami.
An Idea or an inspiration would surely finds the writer no matter how blocked one may feel after a while. And you have expressed that uneasiness’ well’ before that moment arrives as if that moment perhaps never ever left you behind.
Good work Parminderji!!!!
For all:-
Beware of Grammar, particularly when writing comments as expert critics,
please ! a.k. goswami.

Born and brought up in Kanpur, married in Jaipur and now in Chandigarh, I have been fortunate to taste various cultures of our country. Had a brief stint in teaching while in Jaipur but more duties called. Now, help my husband in his business as much as I can. I love Music, reading, writing, painting, when time allows as I am part of a family of nearly 70 lovely people. I will always be indebted to p4poetry for providing an outlet for what I had always kept under lock and key.
good maam……………..It is good……………somehow you come with a good when it comes to competitions…………
This poem is good………..you have really grinded that pen in and out……………………….grinding of pen………..nice thought……………………
VishVanandji came out with a lateral thought to Writer’s block in artery that was also good…………..this is also good………………but this time if you ask me as a panel, it may not be me or you, its for sure VishVananji even though he poem does’nt tackle the core subject but it brings out Hashya kavita at its best………………
I have also tried to paint the topic, so have you………………….and so have many others like shaluji, Venkat, Medhiniji, Sangeeta, and Parikshit……….and the elderly Flute poet I tend to forget his name……Well Many more of them……………….
Coming back to this poem………………you have really put some thoughts to it and then come on paper……………………..

@ULHAS, The idea is to enjoy and be as innovative as you can, and I am having fun, as I challenge myself to write on these topics. And you know, the pieces are composed in split seconds without much contemplation, or not at all. That is the problem….

And of course, I wouldn’t imagine I was anywhere near to Vishva ji’s calibre.
But, getting these wonderful remarks is definitely on!!
Thank you for all of this.

@renu rakheja,To me, really speaking,
there is nothing like being called a writer’s block. It’s only so felt when any
writer has got to willy-nilly write on an unwanted topic trashed upon him/her
over and above his choice or interest, as happens in cases of examinees
attempting irrelevant or out-of-course question papers. The topic put for
competition/contest itself has proved it in view of the situation not only
explained in the above poem but also in all idential problems laid down in
the writes of all others variably. Every writer reserves his or her specific
quality, imagery, philosophy and modus operandi and, therefore, quite apt
to go astray and considering it a so-called writer’s block. What a folly and
fuss !!!???…… a.k. goswami.
