To India…On Republic day

picture11

Twinkle Twinkle the world’s “shining” star

Look where u were and where u are…

Why has the brightness dulled as such?

A year that ravaged and hurt you so much?

What has angered and embittered your every son

Is the dastardly act of the coward’s gun….

The naked deceit of the professed “true” one

Has your image of success of years…undone

But why does the star shine bright no more?

Where did your strength….your conviction go?

Look up and soar into the sky

Shine again and rise very high…

The shattered sparkle don’t bemoan

We are all with you… you are not alone…

Shine again my little star

We need to go very far… we have to go very far!

@rajdeep, Thanks.. i hope the connotation of the “true one” came out clearly.. or is it a little too subtle?

Seema, A beautiful Poem, indeed.

But why single out “Satyam” alone. In fact the sentence “The naked deceit of the professed “true” one” does cover in a way all those “Jekyll & Hyde”s, who are responsible for the downfalls, over the years.
I may suggest the following in its place.
“The treachery & deceit of the professed honest ones”

@VishVnand, I appreciate your view point … but feel that the treachery & deceit of the professed “honest ones” was there , is there and will always be there in every country and in every economy… The satyam blow has been extremely untimely…of macabre proportions…and hit hard at an already shaken nation….definitely the hardest blow that corporate India has ever seen and therefore stands out as the biggest villain amongst the other “Jekyll and Hydes” and elicits the “pointing finger” in every aspect of the word!!……

Yes, I think you are right on this score. Good.

As I was standing in Gandhi Ji’s birthplace today watching Indian tiranga unfurl on republic day, your words make so much sense. Hope your poem lifts the spirit of all those feeling let down by events in recent past.

What could be a more appropriate occasion , than this Diamond jubilee of Republic Day, to brood thoughtfully from the deepest deeps of the poetess’s heart , over the state of republic, which has the privilege of being the first republic of the world, The lichhhavis republic.

The deep concern of the poetess, the hurt expressed in her words , the anguish and the agony – is so emotive and moving to the very core of an Indian.Yet “Shine” – that is the hope, that is the light , the sine quo non of the Spirit of this nation – India, Bharat, Hindustan… never losing. never say die attitude.

Amidst, ravaged remains and hurt, the dastardly act of the coward’s gun – remains unmoved , unfettered and shines bright the resilience of ours; The naked deceit of the professed “true” one , can not belittle the spirit of honesty of we Indians – Hothon pe sachai rehti hai, jahan dil mein safai rehti hai, Hum us desh ke vaasi hain…

Having lit up the Light of republic and thus the equity in society…. more than 2500 years back….and having shone for so long we sure are to sign more glow more…truthfully Tamso ma jyotir gamaya !

@Daring, Abhay..what a wonderful tribute to my poem and more importantly to the nation…really touching thoughts portrayed through such a fantastic spirit of patriotism..wish you had written them through a poem as well…Thanks..your comments always compliment my poems… or at times even outshine them totally…but thats the kind of reaction one really seeks..Thanks

To P4Poetry…..Its amazing what this one site has done to all of us…speaking for myself…this newfound love for writing Poetry changed the perspective of the last couple of days from a typical “long weekend” to “spirit of Republic day” albeit through words rather than actions… and then to a feeling of deep patriotism almost like a maternal instinct towards the country…the emotions reflected themselves through the poems words… and left a huge impact of wanting to do more…than just write.. for the country for the future generations and more importantly for one’s own inner self…this is the magic of this site and all the people who so beautifully responded to this poem and all other poems and help elicit and evoke such strong feelings in me. Thanks is too small a word for the same…

Hi,
lemme join u on the Satyam thing, alabit late,

had not read the entire exchange earlier.

The satyam episode cannot, i feel be viewed in isolation, rather it is the cumilation of years of deciet, fraud, loot etal by our politicos, & its gotta be a hand in glove operation.

another scandel wud soon show up & satyam may be soon 4gotten :(

You have touched upon some of the unfortunate events that unfolded last year with the audacity and sensitivity of a true poet. The poem lives up to being the baby of poetry.
Thanks

Oh my God! How could I have missed that one? I think everyone has said all that I would have liked to say. But, hats off Seema, you aar too good. The way you mould your thoughts in words is outstanding. The motivational line : we have to go very far ” is perfect closing line. A masterpiece certainly.
