Prayer in Despair

Out of the depths of my heart
Flew a bird towards the skies
It carried with it all that was mine,
All that was dear and all that was sublime.

The loneliness that ensued
Left me motionless and mute
And neither my brain nor my heart
Functioned, or gave to time any salute.

A melody somewhere far away
Broke the monotony of this play
Collecting the memories gone astray
Adhered to the recesses of mind gone gray.

The longing to see my parents long gone
The sight of my Father, struggling and forlorn,
The sight of my Mother, draped in white,
Not moving, taking with her, her pain and plight.
The pious songs in his melodious voice he sang
The smiles she gave whenever I rang,
The comfort, the showers of love that they bestowed
Nowhere, only in my heart do I hold.

Busy in my life with kids and work galore
Busy in my routine, craving for more and more,
Letting years become just a memory
Separated in body by waves of sea.

Suddenly, the shock of being alone hits me,
The pain of too much love tortures me
And unbidden the memories attack
Exhumed from the graves that I had packed,
Obliterating the veils of false security
Opening melodious memories in all purity
The crescendo of my thoughts reaches its octave
The pain of tenderness making me brave.

My children who now live so far away
May love me, but snatch my joys away
I’d housed them for nine months each
And now they only are so out of reach!

I burden not the present with thoughts bleak
And memories flicker from dawn to sleep,
Hiding happiness in all achievements
Breaking all resolves into tiny fragments.

This loneliness and that loss
Is like a stick thrown with a toss
In an ocean high on tide
When moon is full of light.
Tranquility I search with all my might,
I know, joys and sorrows together are tied,
Sorrows__ I’ll hide
In the yellow pages of my mind.

I’ll joyfully and willingly bleed for them all
Collect all the pain in a tomb that is tall
To emanate only joy and laughter
Like a Fairytale, let them live happily hereafter.

Thank you Krishna. I suppose as you grow in years, one lgoes through different experiences of life and somehow the perspective also changes. Some things become clearer too. These separations that we all have to go through are unavoidable, so one should learn to accept things gracefully. That is what I have always tried. I always state what my heart dictates. If that can impart some solace or guidance, my good luck! :)
