With Love, Newspaper Boy
Dear Violet,
With every burst of dawn,
Greeted me and my bicycle
A sanguine face…
Peeping around this door;
Like a full moon behind the clouds,
To breeze a spell in these eyes…
With its sheer incandescence!
But one day…
Longed to see the same dawn
Yearned to meet the same eyes…
Little did I know-
My ill-fate felt the urge
To bestow itself to me.
What greeted me that day;
Was a stark locked door.
You were not there. The sky overcast. The moon was gone, the door was locked.
And Here I am…
Sitting at your porch steps
Staring at your locked door…
A silly lone soul
Waiting for a prodigy.
Won’t you return?
With Love,
Newspaper Boy

An excellent poem is always an excellent universal poem, whether it finds entry into a specific contest or not.
