Equivalent Proverb…..Can You?

 Equivalent Proverb…Can You?

 I heard that,

 Years back,

 In England,

 At a Party,

 Hosted by Embassy,

 A British Diplomat,

While talking to a Japanese Diplomat,

In some context,  but as a taunt,

 Uttered the English Proverb,

“Pennywise Pound Foolish”

 And waited to observe

 Reaction of the Japanese…..

 The Japanese Diplomat,

 Was unnerved & informed,

 He understood what she meant,

 For in Japanese also,

There was a proverb to this effect,

 Which, in Japanese,

 He recited,

 And explained,

 It meant

 “ To burn less candles,

 You go to sleep early,

 And have twins…!”

      I am wondering,

      What may be,

      The equivalent proverb

      For this,

      In our own Indian language,

      Conveying the meaning,

      Particularly now,

      When there is so much

      Talk of Family Planning,

      And also abundant

      Lack of Electricity

      &  hence

     Long hours of Load Shading………!

      Tell me friends

     If you know of any,

     or can make one,

     equally meaningful & funny…….!

                                          “ VishVnand ”
