Moon River….

In the stillness of the night,

Somewhere a baby cries

There is no one to look after him

No one to wipe the tears from those innocent eyes

What has the world come to?

Is humanity still alive?

Why is each day like a battle in war?

Why do we need to struggle to survive?

It is night indeed

The darkest of them all

Is there no one who can bring back the light?

No one, who will answer the last call?

Everyday, I hear tales of war

Of death, of pain and slaughter and butchery

I close my eyes and shut my ears

Trying to hide from all the misery

Until at last, alas!

I cannot stand the gore

I can’t see the bodies and blood

Lord! I can’t take it no more

They say, there is heaven and hell

Where the good and the evil,

Are taken as we know

Since I’m sure, hell this is

It is heaven then where after death

I shall go.

One night I see a light

High up in the sky

I’m drawn to it as if a puppet on strings

Someone tell me why?!

I walk towards it and see the moon

Shine on me and smile lovingly

For the first time it seems in ages,

I smile back at something

For the first time I feel as if I’m free

I do not want to look back

There is no one whom I want to behold

The ignorant fools will fight,

Fight and destroy each other

As it has always been foretold

I stand and see the moonlight

In the waters of the sea

It seems as if it’s a river from the moon

Stretching out to me

I walk on along the river of light

Maybe…. when I open my eyes again

Everything will be alright…….

Apoorv, the poem flows effortlessly, no jarred words inserted here and there! Kudos to you!

The scenes in the closing paras are beautiful. But is this what we’ve come to? – sleep and let it mend? That’s the sad part! We do want things to improve, but do we really work for it?!

Sensitivity of the poet comes out well….the ending could have been better

Every human is a lonely travellor
That he comes to know
When he knows himself as part of HIM

the passage to Nirvana
Is a one man portal
No kith, no kin to follow

An absorbing poem that makes us think of our priorities once again

Apoorv,
well written, reads well. Good imagery.
Sometimes we are mere in this world and sometimes we just have to close our eyes even if just to take a breather,
