Why Can’t I……?

She stood by her window

And gazed at the setting sun

Trying to find comfort in its fading warmth

But she could find none….

She looks back inside her room

At memories of a happy past

She should have known, she thinks

That it was all too good to last

From her lovely eyes

A tear trickles down

There’s no smile on her face

Her brow is creased with a frown

Seeing a pure soul in misery

Gives me a heartache

Doesn’t fate have any pity on her

For heaven’s sake?!

There was a time, when she even wept

With a twinkle in her eye

Now, I can look through her eyes

As she smiles..

That her heart longs to cry

I try to console her

Try to ask, what is wrong

Why everyday, she sits in a corner of her room and sobs

From night until the break of dawn.

Even as I look at her

Why does she suddenly burst into tears?

Why troubles her tender heart?

What is it that she fears?

She just keeps her head on my shoulder and keeps crying

And I can do nothing but watch helplessly

She doesn’t seem to notice that she’s cared about

That with one sorrow-full look, she can disarm me

Even in her troubles

She tries to help me

Runs a hand through my hair

And caresses my cheek gingerly

I try to hold back my tears

I try not to cry

But she asks me to shed them

Though I can’t understand why…..

Smile! I tell her

Take life in your stride

Walk with me, and see how beautiful

The world is…..

Casting all sorrows aside

Tell me sweetheart

What is it that you crave

Take a look around

Your friends will fulfil the absence

Of anything that God gave.

Does she wait for that special someone,

To come and take her far somewhere?

A strange thought occurs to me,

Why can’t, I help her there……?
