First Rains

First Rains

Amid the tantrums of blazing debut rains,

With the coalesce of drops with air in the soil,

Diffuses an aroma, bewilders the souls,

Intoxicates even the venomous snakes and makes us toil.

That rocking of the clouds by the winds,

Mothers melodious thunders and lightening,

Exacerbate a stable soul and reverberates the minds,

Makes even the statues vibrate when they start flowing.

The Sun is erased and the sky is painted grey,

The trees rejuvenate and the earth is covered with blue.

Happy meagre limbs splashing with bigger gazing in dismay.

Voracious chatak extinguishing her thirst, so slow!

Hallowed deity in all praises to play the Godfather,

For the waterless standing crops, so lonely!

Holidays are gone with the death of the summer,

Inverting the faces but making the air, so friendly!

Fills the empty earthen pots, empty for long!

Feeds the bellies of pitiable thin mortals.

Makes koyal welcome the rains with a song,

Rides us to a splendid world through a portal.
