Musings

Moonlight streams lovingly into my room,
Illuminating the night with a nascent glow,
All around, the world sleeps quietly,
Crickets chirping, mosquitoes humming low.
Sleep eludes me, darting away from my drowsy eyes,
Tiredness threatens to overwhelm but my body resists,
Some unseen force keeps me from drifting off,
Alert to the silent night and its gathering mists.
I take in the beauty of the surrounding earthly quiet,
Cherish the few moments that exist just for me,
When deadlines and responsibilities fade away,
And through a kaleidoscope my life I can see.
I find myself looking past the drudgery of routine,
The worries that camp on my inexperienced shoulders,
And I see a multitude of colors, vibrantly radiant,
Hidden like the green moss, trampled beneath the boulders.
The blushing pinks, the fiery oranges, the icy cool blues,
The naturally greens, the dangerous reds and the bright yellows,
The rainbow of relationships that I forged over the years,
My family, my friends and from work those friendly fellows.
For every low that I can see through that hued glass,
I see so many hours spent laughing till the tears rolled,
For every failure that came unbidden at my doorstep,
Many people rooted for me aiming for the victory gold.
Victory was not winning accolades from all and sundry,
It was achieving my fortunes by relying on my abilities,
Trusting them to charter a course for me in this world,
Building me a home blessed by love, sheltered by loyalties.
So when reflection turned into slumber I don’t know,
And I drifted off into the unconsciousness of repose,
But those stolen moments, in the shimmering moonlight,
Like a photograph in the depth of my heart, forever froze.

beautiful poem…. it happens when we’re in a state of extreme exhaution, but we don’t want to give in…. coz the tiredness is more mental than physical
