Love Remains
The days are long and the hours go slow
I drift along, aimless, irresolute, desolate
Trying to banish the lurking shadows of the past
To erase the pain that forgotten memories relate
For it was a dream that could never adorn my sleep
A wish that should have never crossed my lips
A hope long lost yet still flickering in my heart
A reality with which I am trying to come to grips
Words, once cherished, have faded into silence
Laughter, once shared, echo faintly from the past
We faltered in the face of the adverse world
But love survived, unscathed to the very last
