AIDS-HIV positive Or Safe-sex negative-Soliloquy of another woman

Preparations are on
For the cremation of my beloved
Different tones of weeping
And different styles of crying

I am in a corner
With my child in my lap
Both wailing for the (in) evitable
At last body is carried away

Everybody washes off
Have dinner as if they are winners
Child and me still in the corner
No one cares to stop and stare

I ask my in law mom and dad
To help me feed the child starving so long
Lost in the crowd I ask my mom
Comes the reply so harsh and coarse!

“ We never imagined this from you
We gave the best education power
We got the best bridegroom so clever
What a disgrace you have done forever? ”

I feeling the gloom all around
Start sleeping half awake
Feel a hand touch me soft
Turn around to see a man

“ Don’t worry my dear lady!
I will take care of the cow and calf
Can give you a house outside mine
Adjust me for some spare time ever”

What do I do now my dear Maker!
Hubby dies of AIDS he bought
Never he had anything for himself
Gave my share thro’ the daily night chore!

How can I say it is not my fault?
Of forty percent of my fraternity
Blessed with the dreaded disease
Hubbies take Eighty percent share

After a hectic day all around
Husband shares -nay raids the bed nearby!
Can we negotiate safer sex and
Ask the man if condom is donned?

If a man dies he is a martyr!
If his wife pies she is a whore!
Fail to understand the justice perhaps
God punishes the vulnerable sex!

yes…and also the innocent babies who are born with it.
Thank you once again for raising a sensitive issue.

^indeed the babies also suffer!
Good work again with a ’cause poem’, you evoke feelings like none other!

I understand that you have tried upholding a very pertinent issue. But I think you have compromised on the aesthetic bit for the sake of the issue, which is not very good for poetry I think. A finer balance between aesthetics and issue might have rendered the poem brilliant!

thanks Mr/Mrs Inam for the nice comments; but i fail to understand why we should try to put the issues killing the society under the carpet; India is going to be second in AIDS ….is it not surprising that a spiritual country talking of high ethics is going to be of ill fame on this front?
i take your advice to be not so explicit but you might not have seen a few practical cases similar to my poem; i was a pathetic witness; so i feel i need not hide a rotting wound which needs to be operated

I cant say I felt any compromises, an important issue raised…more importantly written really well…coz poetic sense must never be lost for the sake of issues

I guess you got me wrong, I never talked about hiding anything under the carpet. Rather I was remembering a song like “Blowin’ in the wind”.
